Massage Therapy Programs Massage Therapy The Massage Therapy program has been designed to prepare students to take the Registration Examinations of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). The material in the program is therefore consistent with the required knowledge and skills as outlined by the CMTO. The program’s primary goal is to provide learning opportunities that promote basic knowledge, skills, ethics and behaviors that will enable the graduate to successfully practice massage therapy in a variety of health care settings.
Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are valued health care professionals who can seek employment in settings such as private clinics, wellness centers, medical / rehabilitation clinics, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, geriatric care settings, or clinics offering chiropractic, homeopathic and naturopathic care. Opportunities also exist in health spas / hotels, fitness institutes, sports organizations / sports trainers, theatre and dance groups, and tourist destinations and cruise ships. Physiotherapist Assistant The Physiotherapist Assistant program has been designed to train individuals to work in partnership with, and under the supervision of, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The primary goal is to provide learning opportunities which promote basic knowledge, skills, values and behaviors that will enable the graduate to implement delegated tasks, under supervision and direction, within a variety of health care and community settings. Individuals interested in working under the direction of only a Physiotherapist have the option of enrolling for Phases I to III of this program (950 hours) and, upon successful completion, receiving a diploma as a Physiotherapist Assistant. Successful graduates of the full program will receive a diploma as a Physiotherapist Assistant.
Graduates of this program may seek employment opportunities in any Rehabilitative Department where a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist is employed. Career opportunities may be found in such settings as hospitals; physiotherapy clinics; long-term care facilities/homes for the aged; sports medicine clinics; sports and training organizations; health care and fitness spas and clinics; public health services; adult day care centres / group homes; recreational therapy facilities; wellness centres; clinics offering chiropractic, homeopathic and naturopathic care; and facilities offering prosthetic services.
