Medical Administrative Assistant / Medical Office Assistant / Medical Office Administrator

The purpose of this program is to develop skills in four key areas: medical terminology, medical office administrative skills, medical transcription, and word processing. In addition, the program fosters the development of interpersonal skills, organizational effectiveness, and communication skills necessary to function in a medical environment. The training that the student will receive in office administration skills, medical office practice and procedures, word processing, and medical transcription - in conjunction with a professional and selfconfident attitude - will help prepare the graduate for a career in a medical practice, clinic, hospital, or other health-care area.

Health Office Administration

The objective of the Health Office Administration program is to assist and help individuals prepare for a successful career within the medical and/or dental environments. Graduates will enjoy career satisfaction when they have a strong scholastic background with a solid, practical understanding of their responsibilities and begin their positions with a healthy attitude. Focusing on both theoretical and practical course instruction, this program enables the student to remain competitive in the face of changing technologies and customized software. Instruction is primarily concerned with cultivating administrative and managerial skills although clinical knowledge is also applied.

The Health Office Administration program prepares students to find relevant employment in: Private medical or dental practices and clinics, Community Heath Units, Hospital departments such as Admissions, Records, Patient Accounts and Out-Patient Clinic, or as a Hospital Ward Clerk or Surgery Booking Secretary, Nursing homes, palliative care facilities, or senior citizens’ residences, Veterans’ or alternative health care facilities (e.g., chiropractor), Dental insurance companies, Medical or dental laboratories, supply companies, or associations, Private veterinary clinics, Federal, provincial, or municipal government administration departments (e.g., Social Services, OHIP, Health and Social Assistance), 911 Emergency - answering assistance calls and Medical / dental transcription services.
